Huáscar's Story: "Ashes to Ashes: Puerto Rico's Coal Combustion Problem"

The story proposed was an investigation of the indiscriminate dumping of coal ash on several towns in the south of Puerto Rico. The company, AES Corp, denied that the ashes were harmful. It proved that the amount of heavy metals in the ashes were permitted by state and federal agencies.

I then researched the test for the ashes, the TCLP. The EPA's Science Advisory Board and the National Research Council (NRC) are rethinking the test as it might not be the best to determining the ashes' leaching… Continue
